Delaware Eye Institute Responsive Website Project
A Whole New Look for Delaware Eye Institute
When Delaware Eye Institute in Rehoboth looked at their website, Chief Operating Officer Bob Uffleman said it seemed crowded, busy and outdated. Their last major revision had taken place over five years before and was now showing its age. Moreover, it was not responsive, meaning it didn’t display well on mobile devices and keeping it updated was time-consuming. As the premiere ophthalmologic facility in Delaware with three locations, the Institute decided the site needed a major upgrade and called on Fine Line to do the job.
A graphic artist that we use recommended Fine Line. They showed us a number of the sites they had built recently and we felt that look was what we were shooting for.

As Delaware’s premier eye care facility, Delaware Eye Institute clients go to their site to schedule an eye exam, research eye surgery options in the area, read biographies of Institute’s medical staff and for many other reasons. To provide access to such rich content, the existing website displayed a dozen tabs and other points of entry, creating a busy and confusing home page. The site also lacked the ability to permit administrators to quickly make changes in the event of weather or other emergencies. Even more importantly, the site did not display well on mobile devices – a huge and growing disadvantage, especially for a medical facility offering state-of-the-art eye surgery.
Our strategy for this client was to enhance the visitor experience on any device they might use to access it, while cleaning up and modernizing the underlying look of the site. In this case it was important to maintain the Institute’s established brand which was recognizable and respected. Using our go-to content management system, Joomla!, staff can now quickly and easily update content 24/7. To ensure the site displays optimally on all devices, it was built on the Bootstrap framework. In addition to a fresh modern look, we optimized content to improve search engine ranking and streamlined the navigation structure to enhance visitor experience. By reorganizing site content, we cut the number of navigation tabs from twelve to six, reducing home page clutter.
We really like what they did with our mobile site in that they were able to build it so it almost looks and acts just like an app. We were pretty impressed by that.

Since relaunch of their site, Delaware Eye Institute has seen a dramatic improvement in site traffic. Administrators now know they can instantly alert clients to emergency weather closures, new treatments and even new personnel without involving outside parties. The updated site improvements ensure that visitors to the website will have as satisfying an experience as the visitors to the Institute. And all changes were implemented without a disconnect from the Institute’s long established brand.
